The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
