The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
