The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
