The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
