NOW, VERILY, it is We who have created man, and We know what his innermost self whispers within him: for We are closer to him than his neck-vein. 16 Moreover, there are two scribes, one each sitting on the right and the left, recording everything. 17 He utters not a word, but there is a vigilant watcher at hand. 18 And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!" 19 And the Trumpet will be blown, that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). 20 And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness. 21 (And the driver will say:) "You were oblivious of this, so we have removed the veil, and how keen is your sight today!" 22 And his companion, [the angel], will say, "This [record] is what is with me, prepared." 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 forbidder of good, transgressor and doubter, 25 "Who set up another ilah (god) with Allah, then (both of you) cast him in the severe torment." 26 ۞ His accompanying devil said, “Our Lord! I did not cause him to rebel, but he himself was in extreme error.” 27 Allah will say: wrangle not in My presence, and I had already proferred unto you the threat. 28 There is no changing of My word, nor am I unjust to My creatures." 29
