The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Save worshippers. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
