He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
