The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
