The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
