The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
