The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
