[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
