And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
