Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
