The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And the House frequented, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And the swollen sea, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
