Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
