(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
