The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
