Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Sure Reality! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 Would that you knew (in detail) what the Inevitable is! 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees. 7 Do you see any vestige left of them now? 8 Pharaoh and those before him and the people of the overturned habitations all engaged in the same great sin. 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 and the earth and the mountains are carried aloft and are crushed to bits at one stroke, 14 On that Day will come what is to come. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 And the angels shall be on the borders thereof; and on that Day eight shall bear over them the Throne of thy Lord. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 In a lofty garden, 22 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. 23 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of what you did in days long passed' 24 But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger, 25 "And that I had never known, how my Account is? 26 "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)! 27 "My wealth has not availed me, 28 and my authority has vanished.” 29 "Seize him and manacle him, 30 Then cast him into the burning fire, 31 then in a chain seventy arm's lengths long insert him. 32 "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. 33 "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! 34 therefore he today has not here one loyal friend, 35 and the only food he has is filth 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
