Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
