(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
