And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship 26 Other than Him who created me. He will show me the right way." 27 And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return. 28 Yes, I gave the good things of this life to these [men] and their fathers, until the truth came to them, and a messenger expounding things clearly, 29 And when the truth cometh unto them, they say this is magic, and verily we are therein disbelievers. 30 And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?" 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not for that all people be on one religion, We would have made for the disbelievers of the Most Gracious, roofs and stairs of silver which they would climb. 33 and silver doors to their houses and silver couches on which to recline, 34 and ornaments of gold. But all of these are but the provision of this present life; it is the life to come that the Lord reserves for those who fear Him. 35
