Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
