And indeed We rescued the Descendants of Israel from a disgraceful torture. 30 From Fir'awn; verily he was haughty and of the extravagant. 31 And certainly We chose them, having knowledge, above the nations. 32 and gave them such signs [of Our grace] as would clearly presage a test. 33 Most surely these do say: 34 'There is nothing but our first death; we shall not be revived. 35 So bring our fathers [back], if what you say is true. 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them because they were indeed Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). 37 We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport: 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Verily, the Day of Judgement (when Allah will judge between the creatures) is the time appointed for all of them, 40 the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to another, nor shall any be helped, 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
