The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and the sea that is full 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
