A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Verily we are undone. 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
