The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
