He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
