The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
