He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
