Said he to the Council about him, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 34 who wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. Tell us, what do you advise us?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 so that we may follow the magicians if they become victorious? 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said: "Yes, you will then become those near-stationed to me." 42 Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" 43 Then they cast their cords and their staves, and said: by the might of Fir'awn, verily we! we shall be the winners. 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 Behold, we [but] ardently desire that our Sustainer forgive us our faults in return for our having been foremost among the believers!" 51
