The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
