Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
