Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
