The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
