The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
