The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
