The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
