He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
