Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
