The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
