He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
