Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
