The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
