۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Are we not then to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
