The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then came down close 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
