The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 And extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right. 38
