He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
