The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
