Thamud denied the messengers 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
